I loved the film. Beautifully made...Nandita is strong and moving

The following comments were made by people who attended a restricted screening of Ramchand Pakistani in New York.

I was overwhelmed by the superb quality of film-making in Ramchand. The script was crisp, the editing slick, the photography of the dusty wheat and corn fields of Sindh and the direction were just great.

Ramchand is a moving story, sensitively told, that is dense with detail. The film brings to life the world of the Kohlis with such affection and accuracy. The etchings of the characters in this story are masterful — no point is belabored or overstated. The performances that are coaxed out of the performers are rich, deep and subtle. The poetry, simplicity of their world grabs us and takes us on a gripping, touching journey. The use of music is very effective – the old Pakistani songs, the parkari folk songs and the (original) Shubha/Rahat songs are very beautifully combined.

The film was excellent — beautifully shot, extremely engaging, well acted. You should be very proud of it!

The film was marvelous! The story was rich and multi-layered. The subject matter was handled expertly, with careful nuances and attention to detail. It was moving without being melodramatic. Each and every character was well-cast and they developed nicely in the course of the film. An individual (or rather several individual) human drama(s) were seamlessly and simultaneously portrayed, free of sentimentality, unfolding within larger geo-political events, without allowing any one to overshadow or drown out the others; more interestingly, without making this into an 'issue-centered' film even though it was heavily loaded. The way in which daily life details, migration patterns, etc. were woven into the whole was great. The cinematography was beautiful and captured the vastness and the spare beauty of the Thar desert, including the wonderful architecture of the abandoned temples. The music was well-selected and it complemented all the other aspects of the film. All in all, I loved it!!

I was (and am) completely blown away by the film.

Awesome film - it plays like a really good novel with imagery, symbolism – historical yet current, real yet political – romantic, comedic, educational, and true to life. There are many levels of emotion the characters go through and the film touches them all: the overarching theme of division — Muslims v. Hindus, Pakistanis v. Indians, untouchables v. everyone else and why we have these divisions (and in some cases also breaks them). There is a ton packed into the film, and it's all very real.

I really want to see it again! The latter part of the film unravels in an easier way. This is perhaps simply due to the fact that it takes time to set up the whole situation, and all the threads of narration come together towards the end which gives a sense of satisfaction to the viewer. But it has also to do with the fact that the storyteller's point of view is more nuanced towards the end, with a lot more irony and humanity visible among the characters, whereas in the first part there is a sort of good and bad divide which is also necessary to build the conflict that makes the story progress. In terms of style, it was visually consistent and enjoyable throughout.
